The Rekala Race as part of Coimbatore Vizha is hosted in association with The Rekala Thalamai Sangam Tamilnadu (RTST) from 6 am to 6 pm on the 17th November at Codissia grounds..

Rekala racing or Bullock cart racing is a native racing sport which encourages the breeding of native cattle / bulls, specifically the Kangeyam breed..

Participants are allowed to ride their cart one by one only. After each participant reaches the finish line the next cart is prepared with next set of bulls behind the starting point and allowed to race in the race track. After each participant crosses the finish line the time taken by the cart is displayed in the LED system recorded by a chip based sensor placed beneath each cart..

The race happens in two categories, 200 and 300 metres. The cart that crosses the line in the least time is the winner.
